Hello all,
We realize that many of you are still searching for the most updated, post-disaster information from your parishes or counties, and we want to help.
With Tropical Storm Hanna and Hurricane Ike, we’re operating more blogs to help the communities in the storms’ tracks. We have to sign off on the Hurricane Gustav blog for now, but, we can direct you folks to the right places for your needed information:

The DeRidder Branch of the Beauregard Parish Library will reopen on Wednesday, Sept 3rd at 9:00 am. Rural Branches will reopen as quickly as possible. Call the Library or watch here for additional information on reopening.
Wireless Internet access should be available in the areas close to all Beauregard Parish Library Branches except Singer. There is a tree on the power line at Singer.

Baton Rouge (September 2, 2008) – The head of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) today announced that federal disaster aid has been made available for the state of Louisiana to help people and communities recover from the effects of Hurricane Gustav on September 1, 2008, and continuing.
FEMA Administrator David Paulison said the assistance was authorized under a major disaster declaration issued for the state by President Bush. The President’s action makes federal funding available to affected individuals in the parishes of Acadia, Allen, Ascension, Assumption, Avoyelles, Beauregard, Cameron, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Evangeline, Iberia, Iberville, Jefferson, Jefferson Davis, Lafayette, Lafourche, Livingston, Orleans, Plaquemines, Pointe Coupee, Rapides, Sabine, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. James, St. John the Baptist, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Mary, Terrebonne, Vermilion, Vernon, West Baton Rouge, and West Feliciana.
The assistance, to be coordinated by FEMA, can include grants to help pay for temporary housing, home repairs and other serious disaster-related expenses. Low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration also will be available to cover residential and business losses not fully compensated by insurance.
Federal funding also is available to state and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organization on a cost-sharing basis for in the parishes of Acadia, Allen, Ascension, Assumption, Avoyelles, Beauregard, Cameron, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Evangeline, Iberia, Iberville, Jefferson, Jefferson Davis, Lafayette, Lafourche, Livingston, Orleans, Plaquemines, Pointe Coupee, Rapides, Sabine, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. James, St. John the Baptist, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Mary, Terrebonne, Vermilion, Vernon, West Baton Rouge, and West Feliciana for debris removal.

Baton Rouge (September 2, 2008) – The Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is working with its federal, state and local partners to remind those that fled Hurricane Gustav to remain in place until state and local officials announce it is safe to return.
“Don’t go home when there’s no power, there’s no water, the roads are blocked, and trees are down,” said FEMA Administrator David Paulison.
Evacuees attempting to return home early face road blocks, traffic delays, limited water and food, limited utilities, no hospitals and limited if any health care facilities, and serious health hazards. Those crowding the roads seeking to return home are limiting the mobility of emergency responders, utility workers and other essential personnel who must travel to their area and complete their work before it is safe for the general public to return.
Instead, evacuees should remain where they are – with friends and family, at a hotel, or at a shelter. Shelters provide safe havens for evacuees with food and medical care while officials in southern Louisiana work to prepare for their return.

The state has compiled this information from parish and media reports, but we urge anyone seeking to return home to consult their local officials.
Acadia Parish – A dusk to dawn curfew is in place until further notice.
Allen Parish – A dusk to dawn curfew is in place.
Assumption Parish – Residents are allowed to return, although parish officials do not recommend returning. Curfew is in place beginning each night at 8:00 p.m.
Ascension Parish – Dusk to dawn curfew remains in effect until Tuesday morning. People with non-essential business urged to stay off the streets.
Calcasieu Parish – The evacuation order and parish-wide curfew have both been lifted.
East Baton Rouge Parish – Curfew in place from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. until further notice
Iberia Parish – Officials are discouraging residents from returning until further notice. Curfew is in place from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
Jefferson Parish – Residents may re-enter beginning at 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Curfew will be lifted Wednesday morning.
Lafayette Parish – 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. in effect Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Lafourche Parish – Parish is open to re-entry. A curfew in place from 10:00 p.m. to dawn due to of lack of electricity.
Orleans Parish – Tier 1 workers are allowed into the parish. Residents will be allowed back in the city begining Thursday at 12:01 a.m. A dusk to dawn curfew is in place until further notice.
Plaquemines Parish – No timeline has been set for re-entry to the parish. Only those with special passes are allowed in. A 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. curfew is in place.
Pointe Coupee Parish - An 8:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. curfew is in place until further notice.
St. Bernard Parish – Residents could be allowed re-entry beginning Wednesday at 6 a.m. A 24-hour curfew is in place.
St. Charles Parish – Resident will be allowed to enter Wednesday. Only those with Tier 1 and Tier 2 passes will be allowed in until then. A 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. curfew is in place until further notice.
St. James Parish – Only utility personnel and damage assessment teams are being allowed in the parish. A 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. curfew is in place until further notice.
St. John Parish – Officials have not indicated when residents will be allowed to return. Curfew is in place from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. through Wednesday.
St. Martin Parish – The curfew has been lifted. Residents asked to exercise caution in returning.
St. Tammany Parish – Residents can return Wednesday at 6:00 a.m. Curfew is in place Tuesday night from dusk to dawn.
Tangipahoa Parish – Parish is open to re-entry. Curfew is in effect from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m..
Terrebonne Parish – Officials say a tentative plan to allow residents to return beginning Friday at noon. A 24-hour curfew is in effect.
Washington Parish – The parish is open to all residents. The curfew has been lifted.

- Library Services Free wireless Internet access in the areas close to the following Library branches remains available to the public : DeRidder (downtown), Merryville (downtown), Singer and South Beauregard (near the Ragley overpass). For those who have telephone service and a library account, dialup lines are still working.
- Wireless access around the East Beauregard and Fields Branches is down. Our best guess at this time is that power is down to those branches. We will restore service as quickly as conditions allow.
- All branches of the Beauregard Parish Library remain closed through Wednesday, Sept 3rd. Watch this web site or call the Library before coming to see which branches have been able to reopen.
- No fines will be charged during the evacuation and reentry periods. If you have Library materials checked out, they will be renewed to give time for you to return from evacuation and for branches to reopen.
- As around 2 million Louisiana residents wait to return home, workers are checking see that it is safe and to arrange for an orderly return. Curfews and travel restrictions in parishes with evacuation orders are still in effect. Crews are working to restore power to more than 1 million homes which are without power and to clear debris and other unsafe conditions. The State of Louisiana will use this site to announce progress on reentry: http://www.emergency.louisiana.gov/
- The Department of Social Services has announced that the USDA Food and Nutrition Service has issued a waiver allowing the early issuance of September benefits to all households who receive food stamps. These benefits will be loaded onto Electronic Benefit Cards (EBT) by Monday, September 1st, 2008. The purpose is to enable Food Stamp recipients to purchase food during the evacuation and recovery periods.

Update 2:30 Channel 7 Stormteam report is that DeRidder will begin experiencing the worst weather we will see around 6pm.
If you stayed in the area please …
- Watch for downed power lines- Some residents of Allen parish are reporting power outages and lines which are down.
- Take shelter- Wind gusts turn outdoor furniture, signs, etc, into dangerous projectiles. Gusting in Beauregard is already strong enough to raise the rear end of a school bus off the ground.

- Assumption – Mandatory
- Beauregard – Recommended
- Calcasieu – 12PM Noon Sunday, Mandatory
- Cameron – Sunday, Mandatory for residents south of Highway 14, Recommended for the rest of the parish.
- Iberia – 7AM Sunday, Mandatory
- Jefferson – 8AM Sunday, Mandatory for residents on the West Bank. 12 Noon Sunday, Mandatory for residents on the East Bank.
- Lafayette – Voluntary
- Lafourche – 9AM Saturday for residents south of the flood gate, 3PM for all others, Mandatory
- Orleans – 8AM Sunday, Mandatory
- Plaquemines – 12PM Noon saturday, Mandatory

As of noon on Saturday, Aug 30th, Beauregard Parish is under a voluntary evacuation order. All residents are strongly encouraged to leave the parish for the duration of the storm. People who stay in the parish need to have supplies to last at least 72 hours. Curfews and other limitations on the movements of people remaining in the parish may be issued.
Added at 2:00 pm Evacuation buses will leave from all Beauregard Parish High Schools at 10:00am on Sunday, August 31. It is very important to be at the school and ready to go by 10:00am. Buses must pull out on time.
Contraflow traffic in Beauregard Parish is expected to start at 6:00 am Sunday, August 31, and continue for 12 to 15 hours.
Beauregard Parish Schools are closed Monday through Wednesday. There will be no activities at the schools. For more information on the schools, see the BPSB Website
